Before continuing please make sure you went through the tutorial for Signing into OneDrive.
OneDrive offers 1 TB of online storage that is accessible from any device. You can access your files through:
This tutorial will show you how to sync the files on your computer to OneDrive so that you can access them. Setting up the Sync is a one time process that must be initiated by the user. As you will see it is a pretty painless process.
Once the Sync is complete every time you create or save a file to your computer it will sync up and into OneDrive. Because of the smaller storage on your device you may need to save only certain things locally.
As with anytime you deal with your files, please make sure you back them up before you move them to OneDrive.
In the lower right click the OneDrive icon. If it is blue then you are logged in. If it is gray you may need to login.
Choose Help and Settings from the bottom menu.
From the tabs choose Backup and then click Manage backup.
Make sure you see the blue check mark. If all three folders are ready to go click Start Backup.
Once the backup is complete you will see the files in your OneDrive folder. Anything placed in these three folders will automatically backup to OneDrive as long as you have an internet connection.
As long as you are logged into OneDrive on your computer you will see the files. If you go to another computer or use one of the Microsoft OneDrive apps on a different device, you will have to login to access the files. You will also see the files on Office.com. Office 365 files will save automatically to OneDrive as long as you are logged into both as well as to Office.com.
On your computer open File Explorer and click on the OneDrive Folder. There you will see your folders. If they have a small blue cloud they are safely backed up to the cloud.
There are a few rules as far as name structure goes and file size among other things. Those rules can be found at the bottom of this page here.
Since the early versions of Windows the Pictures or My Pictures folder has been syncing into Documents. In Windows 10 the folder became its own folder separate from Documents. You will need to change its location in order for the backup to work. This is an easy fix.
Go to Documents and right click on the Pictures folder. Go to Location and choose Restore Default from the options. Then click OK.
Head back to backup section of the OneDrive Settings and run the backup again.
